Temple University Student Suspended After Antisemitic Sign Displayed at Philadelphia Bar
The controversy began when a customer requested bottle service at the bar and asked that a sign accompany it, according to Portnoy.
In a video posted to social media on Sunday, he revealed that the sign read, “F**k the Jews,” and described the incident as deeply offensive and infuriating.
After identifying two individuals involved in requesting the sign, he also confirmed that two servers who complied with the request had been terminated.
In a public statement, Barstool Sansom Street acknowledged that staff followed a customer’s instructions and expressed regret over the incident.
Portnoy, reflecting on the situation, said he chose to treat it as a learning opportunity. In a follow-up video, he explained that he had spoken with the families of the two men involved and decided to pay for them to travel to Auschwitz.

“Do you really want to ruin someone’s life?” He added that he felt the educational trip would be a more constructive and just outcome.
The incident occurs amid heightened national scrutiny over how universities address antisemitism.
Temple is among 60 U.S. Department of Education for potential failures in preventing antisemitic discrimination or harassment on campus.
